"For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him." Colossians 1:16
The Second Phenomenon
The Second Phenomenon is a meditation on existence and our place within the universe, seen through the intersection of human understanding, cosmic mystery, and divine creation. Its themes encompass Divine Creation, the Journey of Understanding, the Confluence of Science and Spirituality, Questioning Existence, Interconnectedness of Creation, Search for Reference and Perspective, the Miracle of Life, Humanity's Shared Journey, and the Second Phenomenon as a Metaphor for a deeper layer of understanding or a step closer to recognizing the role of The Creator in all things.
Part Two
Where are we?
For the purposes of a thought experiment, imagine that there was a "mall map" in which you could look at a map to see where you are. Do you know the "you are here" point of reference we all used to rely on before we could carry a gps mapping transceiver in our pockets? The point is the more we expand the concept of "where are we?" the less we know.
What if we learned that we do not live in what we think of as a solar system? What if we learned that what we live in is born on and die on is the habitation module of a superstellar inter generational starship?
What if what we have identified and were taught was a planet, we call Earth or Gaia, was more appropriately an area of a superstellar inter generational starship where human life is protected. What if the Solar System is the habitation module? What if our galaxy is the habitation module? What if the singularity within which we reside is the habitation module and parallel universes and realities exist of which we are not aware?
Questions to consider and worth pondering.
Continuing with the thought experiment, viewing Earth as the habitation module for sentient carbon-based life transiting superstellar space on an intergenerational starship is a fascinating question. Imagine waking up in a space where all your basic needs are met. You do not need anything more than what you are provided and have. You also believe that you have space to move, to breathe and to be free.
Fourth wall moment: Wait a minute, isn't that what our ancestors experienced? Survival was and is the challenge and making our way out of the habitation module seems to be the fundamental purpose to learn more about ourselves as we learn more about the universe and our place in it.
More questions...What if this space included all space within the solar system? Within the galaxy? Within the universe? What if time and space were not what we think they are? What if "natural laws" were a phenomenon of sentient particle participation? What if determinism was simply a negotiation? What if gravity was a form of life? What are neutrinos? All great questions worth pondering.
What if freedom to move is a fundamental law of nature predicated on the formation of cosmic consciousness aka The 1st Phenomenon?
What if you found a doorway? Would you like to open it? Yes. Because that is what being means. It means yes, because being in and of itself is a doorway to becoming. And that is what we do as human beings. Perhaps we are more like "becoming's" than "beings".
While I sit in a chair our planet is traveling approximately 60,000 miles per hour around our sun. Our sun and the planetary system surrounding it is a perpetual motion system and is transiting the cosmos at approximately 500,000 miles per hour, while embedded within our Galaxy a complex tapestry of nested vibrating perpetual motion systems again in motion together and (yet again) embedded within the universe are traveling at approximately 3,000,000 miles per hour and (yet again) embedded within a tapestry of universes flowing together as a fleet of superstellar intergenerational starships traveling at some unknown speed because to us the enormity of expanse makes it difficult if not impossible to determine direction and speed because we lack reference.
We were born without an exterior reference while we are slowly waking up to knowledge that as above so below. That as inside so outside. This and That. Wiggle and Wobble. Particle and Wave. Pilot without and Pilot within.

What we are embedded within is also embedded within us. Much like a Russian nesting doll. Everything we see is everything we are.

Reference is critical to perception. Without it we are left to guess and fret and worry.
One of the most important reasons for sending spacecraft way out beyond the heliosphere or to La Grange points to better image constellations beyond our galaxy is to ascertain movement at distance. Without it there is no way to know where we are and how fast we are traveling beyond the relativistic physics models we have contained within the confines of our own solar system.
The miracle of life does not require knowledge of its origins. The survival of life demands this knowledge. To develop some sense of who we are as well as what we are as well as where we are it would behoove each of us to expand our vantage to appropriately appreciate that we are.
Now imagine the space mentioned previously. Imagine that you did notice a door and find that it was opened and all that was needed was to give it a little nudge. Voila! It opens into a hallway. You follow this hallway to an outer door, a hatch. You open the hatch and walk outside to see that you are on a giant superstellar space-going vessel. This vessel is so large it does not register that anything could be so large. It is infinitely large from your vantage.
In an instant you recognize that you have lived in a stateroom within a habitation module within this giant vessel. This enormous structure is a marvel of technology and the whole time you were living in your stateroom you were told that was all there is and there was no other intelligent form of life.
How then would you explain the vessel? How would you be so certain of yourself when you arrived on the vessel without knowing who, what, when where and how your ancestors arrived before you did.
Would you argue about damaging your stateroom? You would not think of damaging a stateroom on a seagoing vessel. We consider people who damage property that does not belong to them as inappropriate at best and criminal at worst.
What if the human experience is that of a pseudo-abandoned pampered child? What if most of us have native insecurities because when we arrive through the chute of life through mothers sacred cradle, while we are provided with everything we need to survive, be free and live a good life yet we have deeply rooted insecurity as to our origins leading to the phenomenon of pampered latch-key kids. The problem with this situation is that many children raised this way grow up to become toxic (in some way) adults. What do we then make of a species who is by our very nature insecure, pampered, and self-absorbed when we cannot agree that we are in fact pampered and toxic as a species to varying degrees?
The point of the thought experiment is to expand the vantage of perception, cognition, thought for the purpose of contemplation. Again, the farther we go with "where are we" the less we know. This is humbling for me, and it should be for all of us. Given proper vantage each of us can find humility, connectedness, and acceptance for one another. We ought to make room for each other given we are all in this together anyway.
End of Part Two
Summary This reflection is a meditation on the profound nature of existence. At its most fundamental level this narrative serves as a reflection on the intricate and intentional design of creation by The Creator.
